DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT Golden Spike National Historic Site
is a National Park Service site, remotely located 65 miles northwest of The visitor’s center upgrade projects
were necessary to brighten up the interiors, freshen up the exterior, and
repair rodent and other damage to the electrical system. A new projector and
sound system was added to the visitor’s theater area. New insulated windows
were installed in the engine house where the replica engines are stored and
serviced. A number of challenges have occurred on this project. Most had to do with the remoteness of the
location and the need to keep the visitor’s center open during the
remodeling. With a lot of coordination we were able to accomplish the work
with a minimal amount of disruption to the site personnel and visitors. At
the front entry shown above, exposed rafters were a favorite nesting place
for barn swallows in the area. E-Corp proposed covering the exposed rafters
with rough-sawn plywood soffett before paint to eliminate the nesting places
from the swallows. |
